Job Duties:

This is a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position (70% research and 30% teaching) at the rank of Assistant Professor supporting the Plant and Earth Science Department. The position is funded by the Wisconsin Dairy Innovation Hub ( ). The standard teaching full-time load is 12 credit hours per semester or 24 credit hours per academic year (3 credit hours per semester, or 6 credit hours per academic year, for this 25% teaching appointment).

The successful candidate will

1) Demonstrate strong interest in climate effects on the dairy industry

2) Have an ability to conduct applied research in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, air quality, carbon footprint, carbon sequestration, and life cycle analysis relating to dairy industry

3) Be committed to excellence in teaching at our primarily undergraduate institution

Opportunities may exist for optional summer employment through teaching and internship supervision. Faculty may seek summer remuneration through acquisition of research grants.

Anticipated Appointment date: August 22 , 2026.

Research (70%)

  • Develop an applied research program focusing on one or more of the following: quantifying and/or mitigating greenhouse gas emissions associated with dairy farming, manure management or dairy processing, air quality and manure management, reducing the carbon footprint of dairy systems, carbon sequestration, life cycle analysis and assessment of dairy products, energy use and renewable energy systems for dairy farms, and strategies to build a climate-resilient dairy industry.

  • Communicate research results to diverse audiences through forums such as professional scientific meetings, referred publications, dairy industry groups, and local producer groups.

  • Develop collaborations and networks across the dairy industry, within local and state government, and within the state of Wisconsin Dairy Innovation Hub.

  • Provide leadership and expertise on issues and policies relating to atmospheric science, climate change and agriculture.

  • Secure extramural funding sufficient to sustain a vibrant research program that includes the training and support of undergraduate research students.

Teaching (30%)

  • Primary teaching activities may include undergraduate courses in Climate Change and Agriculture (new course), Atmospheric Chemistry (new course), Climatology/Meteorology, Data science and other courses depending on the candidate’s expertise.

  • Other teaching opportunities include introductory courses such as Introduction to Environmental Studies, Introduction to Soil Science, and Introduction to Geology.

  • Be an effective, engaged, and innovative teacher.

  • Research on the scholarship of teaching and learning is encouraged and supported.

Other

  • Serving as academic advisor to undergraduate students.

  • Advising of co-curricular activities, including student organizations.

  • Participation in faculty governance and service activities at the departmental, college and university levels.

  • Preference exists for teaching/research skills including big data analysis, volatile organic compound (VOC) expertise, experience with eddy covariance technology and measurements.

  • Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science/Chemistry, Climatology, Biometeorology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Agricultural, Biosystems, Environmental Engineering, or related field. ABD applicants may be considered for a conditional appointment and must complete their Ph.D. within one year after their date of appointment.

  • Record of scholarship including peer-reviewed publications.

  • Strong interest and desire to teach undergraduate courses.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to diverse audiences and commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in agriculture and research pertaining to the U.S. dairy industry.

  • Record of success in obtaining grant funding
