Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Pastry Cook to join our baking team. As a Pastry Cook at Ole & Steen you will prepare a variety of cakes, pastries, and other sweet goods according tour traditional Danish recipes.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and delicious creations. The ability to work well alone and as part of a team is a must. They must adhere to health and safety standards. The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele and you must expect to produce a high volume of products for our stores. This role is ideal for someone who is interested in learning about real Danish pastries and cakes and wants to pursue a career as a dessert or pastry chef.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the production team during shifts, ensuring clear task delegation and timely completion of work.
  • Prepare a variety of cakes, pastries, and other sweet goods using traditional Danish recipes.
  • Monitor baking processes and adjust oven settings to ensure product consistency and quality.
  • Train and mentor team members in baking techniques, food safety, and company standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, cleanliness, and teamwork on the production floor.
  • Conduct quality checks on raw materials and finished products.
  • Manage shift inventory levels; ensure ingredients are properly labeled and stored.
  • Oversee equipment checks and coordinate with maintenance when needed.
  • Maintain adherence to portioning, plating, and display standards.
  • Enforce and model compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Communicate shift updates and issues effectively with management and other leads.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED certificate is a plus
  • Completion of a Culinary School program or apprenticeship preferred
  • 1-2 years of pastry-making relevant experience
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Basic math skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, especially during the holidays
  • Maintain a clean environment and keeping the area organized and free of clutter
  • Thoroughly follow company procedures according to health and safety standards
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures

Ole & Steen was founded in 1991 by the Danish bakers Ole Kristoffersen and Steen Skallebæk and originally called Lagkagehuset or “The Layer Cake House”. Ole & Steen is pioneer in the resurgence of artisanal and handcrafted baking practices in Denmark. In 2008 the two bakers joined forces and became the organization we know today.
