Position Summary

TheUniversity of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Department of EmergencyMedicine is seeking to hire highly motivated Research Assistants to work onmedical research studies. The successful applicant should have goodinterpersonal skills, critical thinking capabilities, and possess attention todetail. This is an excellent opportunity to gain medical experience prior topursuing a career in clinical medicine or research.

Underdirection of Research Manager or Coordinator:

Screenfor research subjects through medical record abstraction, telephone, or in UNMHospital
Obtaininformed consent for research from patients and families
Performdata collection through direct patient interaction or using Cerner FirstNetelectronic medical record system
Performingparticipant telephone follow-up
Handlingof biological specimens and sample isolation
Performsample processing including centrifugation, aliquotting and freezing
Allduties to be performed using Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate
Strictadherence to HIPAA, FDA requirements, and Good Clinical Practicesguidelines

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency inMicrosoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Calendar
Familiarity withdata collection databases such as REDCap
Basic understandingof UNM HSC Institutional Review Board (IRB) operations
Current CITIbiomedical or social/behavioral research investigator training certificate
Good organizationalskills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail
